Famous Marine Chopped Noodles

When we went to Gunsan to meet my hubby's friend, he invited us to have kalguksu or marine chopped noodles. From his place, we drove for about 30 minutes to get to the famous marine chopped noocles restaurant. It was a little bit far but it worth it eventhough we had to get back from where we've been to, to take him home.

The place is famous for kalguksu and there are lots of restaurants with the same menus but we went to the one with lots of people (That's what we always check when we go to restaurants that are not familiar to us. If there are many customers, then the food is delicious.) to make that the food is good. So, we decided to eat to Somunan Kalguksu or Rumored Traditional Chopped Noodles.

We ordered good for three people and here's what they gave us.

Oh wow! It's too much! But we almost had it all. We were very full and we were very satisfied with the food because it was yummy. But there was a problem with the service. Maybe because there were lots of customers but that wasn't a reason not to serve the customers well. Hubby's friend asked some more kimchi (you can get refill in all side dishes in the restaurant here in Korea) and the waitress passed several times without giving us anything. Then he thought maybe she forgot about it then she told her again but still nothing came on our table. How much is one minute to get some kimchi? I tried to understand her because she was tired. Then finally, the kimchi came but I was already annoyed.

Except noodles, they also serve brown rice and of course side dishes which is normal to all restaurants to serve different kinds of side dishes.

Near the parking lot, there's also a small amusement park, so after having yummy marine chopped noodles, you can have fun or send your kids to amusement park.

Teri Bake Chicken

When we bought Nanta Pizza, we saw that next to the pizza shop was a chicken shop brand named Gubnechicken. It's one of the famous chicken brand here in Korea so my hubby went inside the shop and asked for a pamphlet. The next time that we went to the supermarket, we dropped by to the shop and tried their new menu, the Teri bake chicken with crispy and fresh onion leaks and sauce.

The chicken costs $15 and if you want the leaks and sauce, you have to pay $2 more. I prefer to have the leaks and sauce. It's delicious. I tried different kinds of chicken menu with different brands and this Teri Bake Chicken is one the most delicious menu that I've ever tasted.

Pork and Chicken Cutlet

We went to Yongduam Rock and we had cutlets for lunch. Chicken cutlet for my hubby and pork cutlet and noodles for me. We had it at downtown in Jeju City which is very close to Yongduam. It was a Japanese restaurant and there were many customers and the restaurant looks good and comfortable but we are not satisfied with the food. The cutlets are too greasy. My hubby said that they used dirty cooking oil. Not totally dirty, he means that in cooking cutlet don't use cooking oil for several times because it makes the cutlet taste greasy.

Anyway, it's not bad to visit the restaurant and try their cutlet. First, they will serve you this sesame seeds that you need to grind while waiting for your order to come. I think it's a good idea not to get bored waiting. It is use to add taste to your cutlet sauce.

Here's my hubby's order, the chicken cutlet.

And mine is pork cutlet and noodles. The noodles taste great. I recommend to try their noodles.

Duck Porridge

There's an interesting site online where you can get discounts to the restaurants when you buy online. Mostly, they give 50% discount. It depends on which restaurants are available on that day. Oh, it's not day, you have to check the internet at 12m.n. because the events starts on midnight. The restaurants changed everyday so you have to check out your favorite restaurants. Or you can just check out and choose the food that you want to eat. It doesn't matter when you want to go to the restaurant. My hubby said it takes about 2 months. So, if you choose the food and pay online, then you can go to the restaurant anytime. When you pay, you can just tell your name at the restaurant because they have the list of the people who ordered online.

It's our second time to use the groupon and we were happy with the restaurants that we've chosen. This one is duck porridge. It's too big for us. It's 3kgs. so even if we didn't have breakfast, we couldn't eat all.

Here's the rice use for porridge. After eating the duck soup, then we can make porridge. But the duck is too big so we couldn't eat the rice. I just had the seeds, chestnuts, beans, etc.

Btw, it's better to make a reservation before you go to the restaurant because some of them have many customers because of the event and you have to wait for a long time.

Set Menu at the Food Court

After taking a walk at the Flower Road, hubby and I decided to dropped by at shopping mall and supermarket near my place. We just walk around, bought some snacks and had dinner at the food court. We ordered set menu and bibimbap. In the set menu include pork cutlet, salad, soup and cheese spaghetti. It's not bad but not also delicious. Just good to obey your hunger.

Roasted Eels or Jang-o gui

Last weekend, hubby and I went to Gochang to see the Gochang Barley Plantation. It is included in our plan to have jang-o gui or roasted eels for lunch because roasted eels are famous in Gochang.
Here are the eels.

As you know, koreans always serve different kinds of side dishes when they have meal. Not only in the restaurant but also at home. So here's what they serve in the restaurant.

They also served the eel bones. I tried one. It tastes like eels but they too hard and crispy.

This is how to eat jang-o. It's up to you whatever you want to put in your vegetable with the eel. I put ginger, garlic, pickled onion, samjang (beanpaste) on sesame leaves and lettuce.

Korean Pop Rice

My mother in law asked if I like pop rice. I said not much but she still gave me this.

Isn't it much? My hubby and I doesn't have time to eat at home. We get up in the morning to have lunch and leave for work then we come home when it's dinner time. When we're hungry, we eat fruits and not snacks.

It has been two weeks now since she gave the pop rice so I tried to put some in the bowl and put it on the table. I was just bored so I thought of having some but once you start to eat it, you can't stop so I had much but didn't get full.

Dunkin Donuts in Korea

Of course there are also dunkin donut shops in Korea. Last time, I invited my hubby to go downtown because I was craving for donuts. Because it's just few minutes away so we went there to find out that the store was already closed. The dunkin donut shop was changed to ice cream shop. My hubby wondered if the reason was about the news that they used ingredients that is not good for our health. He wondered if all the stores were closed because of that. After a few weeks, we went to the train station to pick up my in laws. They were tired so instead of driving, they took the Korean bullet train or KTX. I was so happy to see the dunkin donut store at the station so I bought 6 pieces of donuts.

No matter what they say, I still love donuts. And I'm glad that I found a store near my place. Yummy!

How to keep the potato fresh

My mother in law gave me some potatoes. We don't like potatoes but I put some when I make some soup. It makes the soup sweet and think. We eat the soup but not the potatoes. Me and hubby are compatible when eating soup. We just the soup and leave the vegetables. So potatoes are always thrown out. I don't put potatoes in every soup that I cook. So a box of potatoes are too much for the two of us.

When I have much potatoes, they usually get rot so my mother in law told me to wrap them with newspaper. I wanted to complain but because I'm a good daughter in law, even when it's against my will, I have to follow her. Or else she would call me every now and then and ask If I already did what she said. To avoid those kind of phone calls from her, I did what she said and right! The potatoes stayed fresh in the refrigerator. It's sometimes good to follow what elders say.

Here's what I did. I wrapped each potatoes with newspaper and put in the plastic bag before I put in the refrigerator. You try and see the result.

Shabu Shabu

Last week, we went to Jeonju to watch the Korean Basketball League. We decided to leave early so we can visit some other places in Jeonju and have Jeonju Bibimbap for dinner before the game starts. But we couldn't find any Jeonju Bibimbap store so we happened to see the Shabu Shabu Restaurant. The Shabuong which is just in front of the stadium.

Shabu Shabu is not a kind of shabu, marijuana, maryjane or whatever that people think about drugs. It's a menu that is cook in front of you. A soup where you can put or soak vegetables and meat and then eat it with sauce.

After eating all the vegetables and meat, we put the rice (the bowl on the left) with fresh egg and kim (laver) and it made some nice porridge.

We also ordered Donkas or pork cutlet which came salad and noodles.

The restaurant, food and service was fantastic. If I have a chance to go back to Jeonju, I'm willing to visit that restaurant again.

Food for Christmas

Are you ready for the Noche Buena? What did you prepare for Christmas Eve? Is there any special food that your country prepare during this day? There's nothing here in Korea so it's up to you whatever you want to eat for Christmas. We usually eat delicious food and there's no particular food to eat but most people buy Christmas cake.

Here's some food that I'm craving for Christmas but the restaurant that we've been to is too far. We visited some famous attractions last time and we saw this restaurant by chance so we parked our car and had dimsum and set menu.

Actually, we were looking for a kimbap restaurant and we saw one but in front of it was this dimsum restaurant. I already went inside the restaurant and waiting for my hubby while he was smoking outside. I was about to order food and then he called me on my phone. He told me to come out and then grabbed me in this restaurant. The food was cheap and yummy! If it just near my place, maybe we already been there many times. Too bad that it takes hours to get there.

Btw, for my Christmas food, I have a Christmas cake, made fruit salad and ordered pizza. I wish I could show you the pictures. I was trying to upload the pictures stored on my camera but I couldn't find the file again to download pictures. Aygu!

Edited: Here's the picture of cake and pizza.
Our Anniversary cake that lasted until New Year.

The pizza that we ordered on Christmas Day. We rarely eat pizza because we are not both fond of pizza.

And here's the left over. Would you like some?

Are eggs good for our health?

Are eggs good for our health? What can eggs give to our body? Cholesterol? Strength? Pimples? Smelly Fart? Anything else? Whatever! I just wanna say that I love eggs. Do you? I don't know when it started but I eat at least 3 eggs everyday. My mother in law told me that I have to serve eggs every meal because it can give us strength the whole day at work. Does it make sense? Even whe she won't say that, I really like fried eggs specially in the morning. Oooppsss... Pardon me! I don't have breakfast because I get up late but eating in the afternoon is like having breakfast.

I can eat 3 fried eggs and sunny side up is my favorite. I also bring egg sandwich to work. I just toast bread, spread jam and put an egg. Very simple isn't it? But I have noticed that my pimples appeared since I started to eat lots of eggs. Do my pimples have connection with the eggs? Well then, I hope I can slow down with eggs.

Oh, by the way. I usually buy a tray of eggs every weekend. A tray has 30 eggs and me and my hubby can eat them in a week. Are we egg-lovers?

Can kimchi cure flu?

My niece who doesn't like spicy food has started to eat kimchi. Her mom told her that kimchi is good to avoid getting influenza or H1N1. I don't know if that makes sense but you know Korea is famous for its kimchi not only because of it's unique smell, savour and taste but also because it's healthy. It's good for our health so koreans believe that it can cure SARS. You already heard that, didn't you? puhaha...Now that the flu which is another pandemic disease is now hitting korea, where there are thousands of koreans who have the flu and there are hundreds of people who get the disease everyday, people are worried about it. So again, koreans think that kimchi is one of the solutions for this problem. If it can cure SARS, it can also do a special role in curing the flu. What do you think?

Cheese and King-Sized Pork Cutlet

We came from work and I was so lazy to prepare lunch. You know when you're hungry everything is delicious specially if you see some pictures of pork cutlet. I saw an advertisement posted in front of our apartment so I took it and ordered two pork cutlets. One cheese pork cutlet for me and wang (king size) pork cutlet for my hubby. The packed and the texture impressed us when we opened it.

The first bite was okay but after eating several times, the meat is getting strange. Or maybe we were just hungry so we couldn't get the real taste of the pork cutlet but when our stomachs started to fill up, the taste was so strange. My cheese pork cutlet was bitter, I guessed the cheese was fake (I saw on tv that some restaurants are using fake cheese) and my hubby's wang donkas (king-sized pork cutlet) smells strange. The pork smells like stinky socks. Yuck~

When we started to taste and smell the strange things so threw it away. We'll never order in that restaurant. If I like the food in the restaurant, I always keep the business card but that pork cutlet restaurant, well, you know what I did.

Ojing-o Chaebukkeum

Ojing-o Chae Bukkeum

Stuff Squids is another hubby's favorite food. As what I always say, nobody teach me on how to cook so I always make my own recipe. When I go to the restaurant, I just checked what ingredients they put in the dish and I try it at home when I see that hubby likes it.

When I went to the market, I saw this pack of Jomi Ojing-o (squid) which is on sale.

My hubby asked me if I know how to cook it but I said I'd try but don't expect too much. I cooked a little because it was my first time so I expect that I would make mistakes. Here's my Ojingeo Chae bukkeum

Methods:
1. Heat oil in the pan.
2. Put chopped garlic and mixed it until it is brown.
3. Put Jomi Ojing-eo.
4. Add some sugar, corn syrup, honey and powdered red pepper.
5. Mix it well.
6. When it cooked, add some sesame seeds.
7. Serve!

Hint: I use this flower honey. You can just use sugar if you don't have some honey at home.

Nuts for our health and mind

While I was watching tv, I saw another program about the woman who had a cancer and now feeling well because of the food that she eats. The doctor told her that she only had less than a year to live but she survived. In the morning she eats fresh vegetables and fruits. She doesn't have much rice. What is important is eating fresh food and nuts. She eats nuts everyday specially walnuts. She has sacks of walnuts at home that she buys fresh from the county. She eats them as snacks, she grinds them to make salad dressing, she makes juice and a lots of recipe that she make with nuts. Since then I also bought lots of mixed nuts. I bought at least 3 packs of mixed nuts every weekend. In the pack are cashew, almonds, walnuts, and peanuts. We eat some everyday and we've done that for almost a month. Then one day, there were some red spots appeared in my hubby's body. Then he started to itch. His whole body was covered by red spots so he said he had an allergy. I've never seen him like that before. I even didn't know where he got those allergy then he said when he was young, he was allergic with peanuts. Oh gosh, I started to panic but he said he was okay. I told him to change all of his clothes and I also changed the bed cover, pillows, and blankets.

Luckily, he doesn't have them on his face so he went to work the next day. I felt better when I saw him back at home because he looked better or else I would force him to go to the hospital. Thanks God because his allergies were totally gone the next morning.

I still have some mixed nuts but I'm afraid to eat them even when they said they are good for our health. Well, if you don't have allergic with peanuts, then you should eat at least 7 pieces of nuts everyday. They are good for our health specially for our mind. They observed that a student who had a bad grades at school started to exercise and eat nuts everyday so she got a high grades. She said, it's easy to remember what she studied since she started to eat peanuts. Well, I think it will also work for you and for your kids.

Constipation

Koreans like hot and spicy food so it's not surprising then if some of them are having trouble when they go to the bathroom. They suffer with constipation. Others including young generations have some stomach disease that can cause cancer. I guess it's because of the food that they intake.

According to wikipedia, Constipation, costiveness, or irregularity, is a condition of the digestive system in which a person (or animal) experiences hard feces that are difficult to expel. In Korean it is called Byeonbi. I watched too much tv and I sometimes get some issue about health. I found out that long time ago in Korea, when people have constipation, they cooked honey and make a round shape and put in the anus or dip dodeog in oil and push it gently to the anus. Ouch! The Korean Traditional doctor said it's true but dangerous if you don't know how to do it. So don't do it if your not an expert or else your disease will get more serious.

To heal constipation, eat enough fruits and vegetables everyday. Drink a lot of water and do some exercise. I heard bananas and plums are also good for constipation. Or try this tomato milkshake or fruits and vegetables milkshake that I make for our breakfast.
