Sweet Potato Cake

Whenever I buy cake, when it's not chocolate cake it's sweet potato cake. I thought it was strange to put sweet potato in a cake and for me sweet potatoes are not that special for me it's because I had too much sweet potato way back home. We don't buy sweet potatoes in my country, when we have at home, we usually receive them from my relatives who have farm or from my neighbors. But here in Korea, we can't never receive from neighbors, you have to buy them from the supermarket for a very high price.

One day, while I was looking for our anniversary cake, the saleslady recommended me the sweet potato cake because they were out of chocolate cake. They only had icing cake but my hubby doesn't like icings so I didn't want to disappoint her and besides I was curious about the taste so since then when I buy cake, if it's not chocolate cake, then it's sweet potato cake.

So on our last anniversary, that was a few days ago, I bought this sweet potato cake because we still have some chocolate ice cream.

The cake has sweet potato toppings and the bread is inserted with ground potatoes so it has sweet and soft taste.

I can't never have this taste if I didn't come here in Korea. Koreans believe that sweet potatoes are good for our health so they are trying to make different kinds of menus made of sweet potatoes. And I'm a big fan of sweet potato cake and pizza.

Green Tea Ice Cream

They say ice cream is more delicious in winter. I think so but I'm worried that I could get cold. But when I went to the supermarket I saw that a gallon of ice cream is buy one take one so I bought a gallon of chocolate mousse and took another green tea ice cream. I thought green tea ice cream is a little bit strange but I was wrong. It's more delicious than my favorite chocolate mousse flavor. It's more creamy and soft. And I made it more yummy by putting some cheese and prunes on top. It's the left over from my fruit salad.

Look! Doesn't it look so yummy? My hubby was looking for this ice cream a few days later but I had it all so he ate the chocolate mousse instead.

Note: I had to wear scarf when I ate ice cream in order not to get cold. And eventhough it's yummy, I tried not to eat much. It took me a few days to eat the gallon of ice cream.

Fruit Salad in Korea

We can't deny that we sometimes crave our native food. I've been staying here in Korea for more than 10 years and I already get used of eating Korean food. I rarely crave food back home usually when I just see some of it on the internet. What I always crave for is salad and fruit salad is my favorite. At first I gave up making some salad because I don't know where to get the ingredients that I need. Besides, it's expensive if I go to a store where I can get products made from my country.

But not anymore because I made my own salad which ingredients are from Korean products. Here's what you need. Raisins (Konpodo in korean), condensed milk (yonyu), fruit cocktail (you can get it at homeplus or e-mart), and sliced cheddar cheese (it's hard to get the not sliced ones). Here's what all you need.

All you have to do is to remove some of the syrup from the fruit cocktail. Then add the rest of the ingredients. You can add depends on which you like the most. In my case, I add much cheese because I'm a cheese lover. What I do is to put 3 slices of cheese together to make them thick and cut them into cubes. My hubby likes raisins or dried grapes so I put much of it. Just mix everything and put in the refrigerator.

Ready to be refrigerated.

The pictures above was eaten in one serve. My hubby and I had it the day after it was refrigerated so I made another one. Here's what I made for the second time. It must be put in the freezer but my hubby told me not to in the fridge because it's winter and he doesn't like to eat it with ice. Besides, it won't take long and we can eat it in a day or two and he was right.

Dunkin Donuts in Korea

Of course there are also dunkin donut shops in Korea. Last time, I invited my hubby to go downtown because I was craving for donuts. Because it's just few minutes away so we went there to find out that the store was already closed. The dunkin donut shop was changed to ice cream shop. My hubby wondered if the reason was about the news that they used ingredients that is not good for our health. He wondered if all the stores were closed because of that. After a few weeks, we went to the train station to pick up my in laws. They were tired so instead of driving, they took the Korean bullet train or KTX. I was so happy to see the dunkin donut store at the station so I bought 6 pieces of donuts.

No matter what they say, I still love donuts. And I'm glad that I found a store near my place. Yummy!

A time for ice cream

It's a Heart Day! Have you already bought a present to your loveone? What did you get? Roses? Chocolates? A ring? How about a gallon of ice cream? Do you think it is strange? I was planning to buy some chocolates for my honey (In Korea, it is the ladies who give chocolates to men.) but then I saw this ice cream store located in the mart so I bought ice cream instead. It's not my present for him. I'm just craving for my favorite ice cream flavor (strawberry cheesecake). I also bought some for hubby's favorite, the Almond Bon Bon. As you know, ice cream is more delicious in winter but I have to wear scarf when I eat it until I go to bed because I don't wanna lose my voice.

My hubby doesn't want me to buy chocolates for him. He said he used to like the chocolates but not now specially on Valentine's Day. I think so. Chocolates are not delicious on Valentine's Day because we see loaded of chocolates in the stores and most people in the street are carrying chocolates including children. Korean is surrounded with chocolates. We can smell chocolates everywhere. But because it's Korean tradition to give chocolates to your loveone so I'm still thinking of buying chocolates for him.

Anniversary cake

My father in law visited us. Before he came he called us and asked what we wanted to eat. My hubby said we already ordered chicken. My father in law said, he would pay for the chicken. My father in law asked if there's nothing that we wanted to eat. Hubby said he wanted to eat chocolate cake so my father in law brought this.



I dunno if he could understand what is written on it but I think the cute candies and marsmallows say all. Oh yes, my father in law gave us anniversary cake in advance. hehehe...Would you like some?

dessert for everyone

Today we attended a birthday party that was held at a restaurant in a hotel. It was a buffet style and there's so much food to choose from. At first i chose the food that was new to my sight, some was delicious and others didn't passed to my taste. I couldn't take a picture of it because my mother in law and uncle were sitting in front of me.

I got the picture of this dessert because uncle went out for a while and my mother in law sat down beside aunt to have a talk about their trip to North Korea. I couldn't eat them all. When i came home, i'm still thinking of them. And while i'm posting this picture, i wish i can still have them. If i could just turn back the time. hehehe..
