Macaroni Salad in Korea

I saw a picture of macaroni salad on the internet so I suddenly craved for it. I searched on some recipes and I found out that each chef has its own recipes. It just depends on what kind of ingredients to put and which taste each and everyone prefers so I got an idea. I tried to make my own recipe. I just used the leftover ingredients when I made fruit salad but instead of condensed milk, I put mayonnaise which I think one of the most important ingredients in making macaroni salad. I mean mayonnaise is one of the ingredients that can't be removed. When I first came here in Korea, I always asked my family back home to send me some cheese and macaroni when I crave for salad but then I found out that I could also get them in big stores like home plus or e-mart.

Here are the ingredients that when I made macaroni salad. The fruit cocktail, raisins and cheese are leftovers when I made fruit salad so I only bought mayonnaise and conchiglie macaroni shells.

I boiled macaroni and when the shells are soft, I put all the above ingredients together in a big bowl and mixed. Btw, put some mayonnaise in a small bowl and season it with vinegar, sugar, and a little salt. I don't measure when I make some food so you have to follow your taste. In my case, I put more sugar because I like sweet food.

Here's how I made my macaroni salad.

Ready to be refrigerated.

Jumbo Special Pizza

There's a newly-open pizza shop just accross from my apartment. It's cheap and yummy. It's pizzamaru. It's a franchise pizza shop. It's not as delicious as Pizza H* or other expensive pizza restaurants but much better than other pizza shops. Anyway, it was newly-open so we decided to try it and here what we've got. The Jumbo Special Pizza.

It's too big for the two of us. But it's delicious is instead of having a slice, we both had two slices of pizza. Yum! Do you want some?

The only bad thing is they don't deliver. But it's just a few steps away so we can call and pick it up when it's done.

Cappuccino Coffee with Chocolate Syrup

I've just noticed that my hubby often asked some coffee now a days. He didn't use to like coffee but now he usually asked coffee when he's at home. So when I went to the market, I thought of him so I bought this hazelnut flavor cappuccino coffee and chocolate syrup.

When I came home, I made some coffee for him and pour some chocolate syrup. Hmmm..Yummy!

I also bought some bananas. I don't like banana much so I thought of putting syrup and I think I will start to like bananas because of the chocolate syrup. It's a good snack specially for kids. No need to cook and it's healthy.

Let's Make Chapssal Hotteok

There are lots of food in winter. Lots of delicious street food like tteokpoki, odeng, twikim, ppung-o ppang and hotteok. I like hotteok specially when it has lots of filling. Usually sugar or honey and peanuts or ground sesame seeds. It disappoints me when I buy hotteok with little filling. It doesn't taste good so I bought this chapssal (glutinous rice) hotteok mix.

It's better to make my own so I can put as much fillings as I want. Here's what I made. It's my first time so I didn't make much just in case that I'll make mistake. But luckily, they were good so I can manage to make better next time. They are not in good shapes but they taste great.

Let's make chapssal hotteok together next time. Here's how I make my own hotteok:
1. Boil small amount of water. Let it warm.
2. Mix flour and yeast into a bowl.
3. Pour warm water and mix well.
4. Cover the bowl with plastic and wait for 30 minutes.
5. Spread some on your palm, put fillings, and make a round shape.
6. When the vegetable oil is hot, put #7 on the fry pan.
7. Press it when it's brown.
(The fillings is included in the pack. It is enough to make 10 hotteok but because I like hotteok with more fillings so I added more black sugar, peanuts, and ground sesame seeds.)

Ojing-o Chaebukkeum

Ojing-o Chae Bukkeum

Stuff Squids is another hubby's favorite food. As what I always say, nobody teach me on how to cook so I always make my own recipe. When I go to the restaurant, I just checked what ingredients they put in the dish and I try it at home when I see that hubby likes it.

When I went to the market, I saw this pack of Jomi Ojing-o (squid) which is on sale.

My hubby asked me if I know how to cook it but I said I'd try but don't expect too much. I cooked a little because it was my first time so I expect that I would make mistakes. Here's my Ojingeo Chae bukkeum

Methods:
1. Heat oil in the pan.
2. Put chopped garlic and mixed it until it is brown.
3. Put Jomi Ojing-eo.
4. Add some sugar, corn syrup, honey and powdered red pepper.
5. Mix it well.
6. When it cooked, add some sesame seeds.
7. Serve!

Hint: I use this flower honey. You can just use sugar if you don't have some honey at home.

Favorite Snacks

My hubby likes munching food when he's at home specially when he watches tv. And here are the snacks that he likes to eat. We usually have at least one of this snacks at home so when I get some groceries, I have to consider or include his snacks in my lists.

This snacks are his newly discovered snacks. They are squids legs. They are not as delicious as the octopus legs but they are cheaper.

These are the octopus legs that we can get online. We have to heat them of fried to make them softer. They are too hard so if you don't have strong teeth, then never try to eat them. They are good food if you don't wanna feel sleepy.

The packs at the bottom are small octopus legs. They are softer of course and we don't need to cook when we eat them. Then the middle ones are zuippos or fish jerky and on top are squids. They are sweet and spicy.

This is the beef jerky. His most favorite snacks and the most expensive of them all.

The food are all great with beer or alcohol but my hubby doesn't drink.

My own recipe bibimbap

We had brunch at 10:30 a.m. As what I always say, we don't have rice for breakfast but because it was already past 10 so i prepared rice instead of juice. At around 4 hubby said that he was hungry so I made this bibimbap for him.

Making bibimbap is easy. Just put rice on the bowl with different kinds of vegetables, sesame oil, laver and fried egg and of course and kochujang (red pepper paste). Bibimbap is not complete without kochujang. Bibimbap is more delicious with raw beef (seng bibimbap)but because of "Crazy cow" (mad cow), we decided not to eat beef. So instead of beef I fried chopped pork, and put some garlic. I didn't put much vegetables, either. I only put what is available in the refrigerator like bean sprouts and broccoli sprouts that I use for salad.

That's it! Too easy, isn't it? You can make your own bibimbap now! I usually use some substitute ingredients and I sometimes get a good outcome. Hubby said it was delicious so I already tried it several times. I'm glad that I found a new recipe for bibimbap. It's my own recipe. hehehe...
